Mount Rainier is one of the snowiest places on earth. Well over 50 feet of snow accumulates in a typical year, then melts off and starts over. These renewable cascades not only give our mountain range its name, they also are vital to our water supply. Snowpack is far below average this year, but for a while, at least, you can still enjoy photographing the beautiful torrents at places like Narada Falls, Stevens Canyon Junction, and Silver Falls. Choose a safe spot, because spring floods can be dangerous or deadly if you get too close! For best results, use a tripod, a slow shutter speed, and a narrow aperture (i.e. a large "f-stop" number) to capture the motion of the water while keeping the background in focus. Then share your photos with us on our Flickr page! ~klb
